Triangle Lodge
Portland, ME – Being invited into a Freemason Temple by their ‘Worshipful Master’ is an unprecedented experience for the team. Not only would they be getting to see the inside of the beautiful halls that few non-Freemasons ever get to see, but with the majority of the team being women, the night was truly an honor to experience the internal workings this fraternal order. Knowing there were some things we weren’t allowed to record, the experience of being there (and participating in a secret rite) was even more amazing.
Triangle Lodge in Portland Maine was the first, and largest of its time in the state. Erected in 1909 it holds 4 different sects of Freemasonry within its halls, all but one closed to outsiders until Haunt ME was invited to experience their hauntings.
The Freemason claims include a lot of residual activity, as well as many encounters of being touched during ceremonies. With a building with the purpose of hosting continual highly energetic ceremonies, in which members exuded a lot of faith and effort, it truly follows the path of a quality residual haunting. (Plus the wooden architecture was amazing.)
Carols mom, Jen Elliot, and her friend Deb Rossi returned to help and joined a group with Ash and Carol (as the girl team), heading down to the basement while the male investigators headed to the top floors. Both teams had to be escorted by Freemasons of course, but it was interesting to learn about Freemasonry and be given the opportunity to hold their relics, as we were able to teach our Freemason guides a bit about the paranormal.
The rite: Though they weren’t allowed to know why they were taking certain actions, the Worshipful Master walked Ty and Shawn through an opening of a rite in Corinthian Hall, in order to help put any watching spirits at ease, and raise the energy of the building. Evidence for this investigation was limited to questionable EVPs, K-II activity, and the doubted ‘flashlight’ technique landed an encounter in the Scottish Rite Auditorium. While this was intriguing, Carol also captured a weird growling noise from the hall the team wasn’t able to debunk. However, noises besides this one were questionable with this event due to the size of the group with Haunt ME that evening.
Though the evidence was hard to cement, and much was able to be debunked, the entire experience in such a legendary secret order was absolutely incredible. The Freemason investigation, with all its lore, is one that the Haunt ME team will remember for the rest of their paranormal careers.
