Standish Restaurant

Standish, ME – This investigation was particularly intriguing in that it’s been through countless identities before its current one as a restaurant. First built in 1783 this building was originally a family home, “The Thompson House”, before being enlarged in the mid 1800’s and turned into a tavern and dance hall. From there, it returned to its identity as a home, then telephone company, before landing on its current state as a haunted restaurant.

The eatery’s owner told us stories about hearing girl’s voices on the top floor, hearing people running along the hallways when the areas should ne vacant. The path of these footfalls ran through areas that had been walled up since the structure had first been a house, which enhanced the eerie feeling. The owner at the time stated that from his experiences he believed there to be, two men, two women, two teens, and a dog inhabiting the building. Numerous patrons had claims of their own, and all followed the same theme.

For this investigation, we had to wait until the building was completely empty, which meant starting our investigation long after midnight and going until dawn. Conveniently for us, this also meant dining at the establishment first and reflecting on our season. After eating, we quietly snuck away to unpack our equipment away from the view of other diners, so not to make them nervous about what would be going on later in the evening.

Our investigation experience throughout the entire season went into full effort to both debunk and uncover evidence as quickly as possible. Carol, Kaitlin and Shawn begin their night on the third floor and the attic, while Ash, Ty and Katie began on the first floor and basement. Ash’s ground floor team was immediately able to discount some of the claims of being watched as the kitchen flooded the floor with electromagnetic activity, sending their K-II to the max. However, it was the story of the dark entity in the attic that captured the team’s attention, knowing that they had to force themselves to visit and try to communicate.

Katie felt a presence in the back of the attic watching the team from behind, almost immediately upon their arrival. Soon they began to hear noises: bumps, growls, and were completely surprised when they vomiting. Assuming someone outside or a team member had gotten sick somewhere below and the sound was echoing upward, they moved forward because it was because it was the only explanation that made sense. However, upon meeting up to question the rest of the team, everyone was perfectly fine and were busy capturing their own phantom noises and K-II hits. Leaving the team confused, but appreciative for the contact, they moved toward the basement with the spirit box.

The use of a spirit box was still pretty new at the time of this filming, and so were the team’s questioning techniques. During a long session in the basement that lead early into the morning, the team might have caught vocalizations of a spirit claiming that they were ‘six’ and liked ‘Ashley’.

Finishing off the night, Shawn captured a light anomaly on his camera, before the energy they’d been feeling all along with any more evidence collections. Rolling their experiences together, it culminated in a perfect end to the first season of learning to investigate with trusted friends, and allowing their skills to grow toward the future.
