Parsonsfield Seminary
Parsonsield, ME – This former seminary school is being preserved and what’s left is being remodeled to look like it did around a century ago. However, these preservations of both the Academy Building of 1832 and the adjoining dormitory have caused the echoes of the past to sound off again.
Even during our walk through we knew something was off, as Ash felt a strange sensation come over her that she was unable to shake until she left the building. Our tech crew heard noises while setting up cameras, and saw something gazing out of an upper window while outside the building. After calming ourselves a little, we heard the rest of the claims. People have heard noises on campus, felt uncomfortable being alone, we heard about trickster spirits in the attack, and footfalls trapped in wet floor polish when the building had been sealed up for remodeling. Amidst all this preparation and storytelling, the sun was beginning to set and the investigation needed to begin.
It was a confusing haunt for all of us, there was a drastic divide between daytime activity and night time occurrences. We caught questionable video evidence, same with audio, and had strange feelings. But as the night drew on, the feelings all but vanished and the activity dropped to nothing. Aside from the pentagram on Katie’s candleholder splitting down the center (practicing magic in a seminary school might have been a misstep) not much seemed to happen here at night. This led us to believe we might be working with a residual haunt that dies out when the students would be called to curfew. However, this theory demanded exploration, and warranted our return for a daytime investigation.
Daytime return-
We returned to test theories around the daytime activity of these spirits here, and also perform an additional experiment with a haunted object previously known as ‘The Dybbuk box’. Basically a paranormal 2 for one, because we knew what to expect from the Seminary at night, and could use that as a control to see how the haunted artifact would influence the environment, and what were we thinking?
Starting the day out, we made sure to connect with haunted object researchers “Greg and Dana Newkirk of the Traveling Museum of the Paranormal and Occult” so they could provide their advice and feedback. And their advice: be careful and stay alert.
The day time investigation was exactly what we needed to do, and concluded that it is not solely a residual haunt. Katie had incredible experiences with tarot cards, one where it appeared that a card popped up when she asked the entities to draw. Additionally, Ty, Carol, and Cory were touched in similar ways at different points throughout the night. We also got the name ‘James Morrison’ from our audio session, and Katie communed with a ‘child’ spirit in the attic that seemed to have devious intent.
However, and most importantly, our experiences with the box proved that we did not have the skillset to properly study it and provide actual answers to what was actually going on. Because of this, and with the owner’s blessing, we were able to get the object to the Newkirks for further study. Be sure to watch our return to the GRCC for the conclusion of this haunted item, when the Newkirks present their findings.
