Mill Agent’s House

Vassalboro, ME – This location is likely the most impactful location for any of the Haunt ME investigators, especially Ty. While the team’s first visit was active, it wouldn’t be until the team’s return in the 4th season that the paranormal occurrences here would leave a lifelong impression.

The Mill Agent’s House was built in 1847 as a home for the owner of the nearby Woolen Mill. After the owner moved on, the mansion became a home for each subsequent Mill overseer who would reside in the home with his family until the next overseer’s term. This created a high turnover within the house, and numerous personalities and spiritual identities for the team to sort through. Additionally, the home rented rooms to a local doctor who performed illegal abortions in what is now Apartment 1 during the mid 1950s, adding even more to the overall identity of the house. Purchased in 1995 by current owner, Ray Breton, the house is now open to inquiring investigators who want to help Ray understand the numerous hauntings within.

Acting as a steward for the spirits of the Mill Agent House, Ray asked us all to use ‘the grounding tree’, a centuries old oak in the side yard, before and after our investigation, to retain a state of neutrality. Within the house, Ray states he and the 1700+ names who have signed his guest book have experienced hearing and seeing entities, being touched, followed home, electronic disruptions and even malevolence in some of the rooms. The prominent spirits he noted to the team were children, a mentally disturbed woman in the room at the top of the stairs, and ‘The Captain’.

To put it simply, activity was off the charts for the team as paranormal encounters at The Mill Agent’s house was like drinking from a fire hose. Hearing footsteps around the house, leaving an offering for ‘The Captain’ and getting an immediate response, mobile blobs of energy setting off EMF meters, and noises loud enough to shake the rooms investigators were stationed in. Even with all of this activity, the team knew there was so much more that they missed, and that one day they would absolutely have to return.

The Return:

One of the funniest parts that occurred was the spirit box session on the second floor with Ty forgetting he had an offering of whiskey in his pocket for the Captain and all that ensued. But undeniably, the most important part of this episode was the crossing over of a spirit referring to himself as Sam/Samuel/Samson.

We returned to this site with the guidance of prominent psychic Chip Coffey, who told the team that on their previous visit, they missed a spirit who had arrived to commune with them. When asking Chip what the spirit wanted, he broke down in tears, stating that the spirit knew he didn’t deserve hell, but doesn’t believe he was worthy of heaven, and that broke our hearts.

We spent the night searching for him, setting up grids of tech, moving them, setting up communication altars, moving them. Then it came to the point where we knew we had under an hour left in the house, we got desperate, and made contact. An EMF detector in the next room started firing, then another, then our K-II meters and the house unraveled. Carol and Ty traveled to the site of the first EMF, and crouched down next to the mirrored wardrobe it was hanging on and removed Ty’s grandmothers Bible, looking for a prayer. Katie and Ash watched from a distance and narrated what they sensed unfolding around them, as the houses inhabitants joined them in watching Ty recite the prayer.

Breaking down in tears as Ty read from his grandmother’s bible, the team watched as the reactions from their tech began to fade with the prayer. When they were done reading, the feeling in the room faded, the reactions from the tech ceased, and the deed was done. The Haunt ME team broke down in tears, feeling that they had provided exit for a spirit who believed he was undeserving of heaven, and for all of us involved, this may be the most important investigation of our lives. Four years of investigation under our belts at this time, and if this had been the only paranormal event we’d encountered, it would have been enough.
