Fort Knox

Prospect, ME – This investigation marked the furthest the team had traveled away from their homes thus far, and also was likely the most prominent and historical haunt they had reached yet. Featured on the show Ghost Hunters in 2011, this created an interesting way for the team to collect their pre-rate; using the television show and matching that with their own eyewitness interviews.

Fort Knox was the home for the 20th Maine, the famous regiment that fought in the battle of Little Round Top during the civil war. The fort was built due to the British incursion of the area during the revolutionary war, noting that defending the river would be crucial in the future. With this need, the Fort began construction in 1840s, and even though it was heavily manned, the area never again saw combat. In the 1990s the fort was refurbished and opened to the public.

Eye witness accounts from those that work at the fort as well as local paranormal teams have noted that the ‘Officer’s Quarters’ is a particular hot spot to focus on. In addition, they’ve named one of the spirits that frequents this place ‘Elizabeth’, believing her to be a little girl that enjoys playing and toys. Other notably named spirits include a few grumpier ghosts, who have been given the names ‘Michael’ and ‘Leopold’. From physical touching, K-II interactions in a building that has never been wired for electricity, and on command interactions, it was clear that the team would have a lot to sort through during their night at the fort.

Once the sun began to set, the visitors were ushered out, and the gates locked the team inside. The sudden eerie quiet that descended upon the fort was an incredible realization to each team member that they were now alone within a 150+ year old historical war structure.

The expanse was huge, dark, and confusing. It was incredibly difficult to navigate if we didn’t have guides. Luckily, it wasn’t long for the groups to each have experiences. Having split in two, Ty and Katie experienced a unifying encounter as Ty got overwhelmed by the feeling of an imposing presence in the outer ring of the fort, before catching an incredible EVP of a young girl saying ‘sit down’. In the inner ring, Ash and Carol’s team worked towards an encounter with the spirit known as Elizabeth. Not long after, Ty and Katie’s spirit box session was cut short when the box was continually ‘turned off’, urging them to respect the area and leave. Closing out the night, Carol completed a solitary experiment where we stood in a separate room and asked the spirit Elizabeth to touch carol in certain areas, and Carol would then show us where she was poked. All these experiences left us incredibly fulfilled, and we knew we had to someday return…

Part 2:

We revisited fort Knox for Katie’s partnership episode, traveling north with Greg and Dana Newkirk to better understand the spirits of the fort and conduct a wild magical experiment with Katie at the lead.

Katie had wanted to invite elementals to our investigation, and turn the stone walled fort into a 5-pointed homing beacon. Using elementally based offerings, she assigned each investigator a station to set up altars calling out to the elementals before the night began, and it quickly took a turn into something more than anyone had anticipated.

Katie and Dana Newkirk performed a dual Estes Method on top of the fort after a night of bizarre happenings, and further drove the investigation into something truly incredible. Both acted as a mouth piece for something beyond, telling the team repeatedly ‘UP’, and when one finally followed the direction and looked, a massive ball of red light arced overhead and bent sideways before fading into the night. The Estes Method then turned to some kind of beeping code, the meaning of which eluded the team.

The whole metaphysical experience was an exciting reminder that whatever is out there is much stranger than any of us could possibly imagine, and with all the research we’ve done, we’ve barely scratched the surface.
